City Council

The City Council is composed of five elected members who serve three-year, staggered, terms. The City Council selects a Council member to serve as President of the Council for a one-year term. Upon the start of a new council session, the council president shall designate areas of responsibility (not already under the jurisdiction of the mayor) to be assigned to individual council members. Each council member shall assume responsibility for the assigned area and execute his/her other responsibilities within the broad guidelines established by the council.

Remembering Councilmember Rader

To our Edgewood neighbors and friends, our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of Councilmember Chris Rader, who was, above all else, a devoted husband and father. While we knew him as a leader, he was first a "safe place" for his family, carrying them through life’s storms with love. To Jennifer and Levi, our community offers our deepest empathy; we grieve with you for the man who was your home, and we promise that the warmth and safety he provided you will always be remembered by the City he served.

Chris was a staunch advocate of his community and, in particular, of the long-term vision for the Edgewood Central District, consistently choosing principle over the easy path to ensure a vibrant future for all of us. He championed high standards to preserve the integrity of our goals, advocating for a modernized and appealing City with the heart of a true community.

Chris’s presence on the Council and in our lives will be profoundly missed, and his absence leaves a void that will be felt by his family, colleagues, and neighbors. We are immensely thankful for the time we shared with him and for the opportunity to have been touched by his life, his remarkable talent, and his technical expertise. His legacy of excellence and his dedication to our city have left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we are better for having known him.
