Safe Disposal and Pollution Prevention

Protecting Edgewood: Waste Disposal & Pollution Prevention

Welcome to Edgewood’s central hub for keeping our city clean, healthy, and safe. Whether you are a resident cleaning out your garage or a local business managing commercial operations, the choices we make every day impact our local environment and water system. Use the guides below to find safe disposal sites, understand local rules, and help protect the City of Edgewood's natural beauty.

For Residents & HOAs

Keeping our neighborhoods safe and our yards beautiful.

Household Hazardous Waste
Many common household products—like motor oil, electronics, spray paint, pesticides, and pool chemicals—cannot go into your regular trash bin.

  • Where to take it: Landfill and Transfer Stations
  • Safe Storage Tip: Keep chemicals in their original containers with labels intact until you can safely dispose of them.

Healthy Stormwater Habits
Did you know that Edgewood's storm drains flow directly into our local lakes and groundwater without being treated? You can protect our water supply right from your yard:

  • Yard Waste: Never sweep grass clippings, leaves, or fertilizer into the street or storm drains.
  • Vehicle Care: Check your vehicles regularly for oil or fluid leaks, and wash cars on the grass instead of the driveway to filter soap runoff.

For Businesses & Contractors

Helping local enterprises stay compliant and environmentally responsible.

Commercial Waste & Chemical Disposal
Businesses are subject to different environmental standards than households. If your business generates chemical, electronic, or industrial waste, you must use a certified commercial disposal vendor.

Stormwater Compliance & Runoff
Edgewood requires all commercial operations, landscaping crews, and construction sites to minimize runoff and prevent sediment, oils, or construction debris from entering the municipal storm sewer system.

Regulatory & Compliance Information

The City of Edgewood operates in full compliance with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) standards. For formal documents, annual reports, or to report a suspected illicit discharge into a city storm drain, please contact the City Clerk's office.
